Second Ballot Measure by Unite HERE Local 11 Advances to City Council for Vote

Unite HERE Local 11 (UH11) has sponsored a City of Los Angeles ballot measure called the “Hotel Land Use Requirements and Affordable Housing”. While this new law will only apply to City of Los Angeles hotels, the law may set precedent and pave the way for similar laws in other cities.

On July 20, 2022, the city clerk certified the ballot measure and transmitted it to city council. Per the ballot measure process, the city council has two options: 1.) Adopt the ordinance without alteration/amendments or, 2.) Place on the next available election ballot – likely March 2024 as indicated by the city clerk reports.
