Hotel Association of Los Angeles to Join Denim Day on April 26 to Support Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Denim Day is the longest-running sexual violence prevention and education campaign. Denim Day takes place Wednesday, April 26, 2023 and people everywhere are invited to wear jeans in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence.

Denim Day is held annually on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Violence Awareness Month. The campaign started after an Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices ruled the victim must have consented as she was wearing tight denim jeans.

HALA adheres to best practices for workplace safety by continuously working with organizations such as the Los Angeles Police Department, California Hotel & Lodging Association Security Directors’ Alliance and Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST).

Los Angeles-area hotels provide employees with up-to-date, state-of-the-art safety trainings that teach and empower them to identify potentially threatening situations and take appropriate actions, including personal self-defense classes, domestic violence training, sexual harassment training, and human trafficking identification and report training.

Member hotels deploy the best industry tools and technology to support all hotel managers and employees to ensure a safe environment for our employees, our guests and our City of Los Angeles community, including providing “personal notification devices” to all work-alone employees to use in emergency situations.

Denim Day has become a symbol of protest and a way to support survivors or sexual violence. In this sexual violence prevention and education campaign, community members, elected officials, businesses and students are asked to wear jeans to make a social statement. On April 26, 2023, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose, to support the cause. To learn more about Denim Day, go to www.denimdayinfo.org.
