L.A. Leaders Need to Hear From You

People talking at Alliance for Economic Fairness.

HALA is part of the Alliance for Economic Fairness, a coalition of more than 50 groups and community leaders concerned about the City of Los Angeles’ proposed $30 Wage Ordinance for hospitality workers.

As advocates for equitable economic growth, the Alliance is urging City Council to find a better solution for the rising cost of living than the $30 Wage Ordinance—especially because of its detrimental impact on our region’s small-business community.

The $30 Wage Ordinance is currently under consideration by the City Council, and the Alliance for Economic Fairness is working on ways to help them understand how it’ll impact our community.

If this Ordinance will hurt your business or your job, please share your story.

How come? Because personal narratives (like yours) make the impact of a bad policy real.

It’s easy. Just go to the Alliance’s Website to record and upload a selfie video sharing your experience:

Tell your story in your words. If you need help, here are some things you might want to hit on:

  • Why your business can’t afford an unreasonable minimum-wage increase right now.

  • How the pandemic impacted your business and other hospitality companies.

  • Why there’s a better way to help workers and employers deal with L.A.’s rising cost of living.

We all want workers and businesses to succeed. A lack of affordable housing, skyrocketing prices for goods and services, and decades of flawed policies have combined to make L.A. one of the most expensive cities in the country. But the $30 Wage Ordinance doesn’t fix the problem—it just makes it worse.
